First Game of 2015! Saxon Dispute.

First game of 2015! Today my Daughter and I rolled out some Saxon's to fight a small territory battle somewhere in England around 920AD.

We used some home made rules which are a bit of a mash up of Kings of War; Viking Age, and Basic Impetus.

We lined up two relatively even armies and had at it. Once the exchange of missile fire had ended, and the opportunity to charge in presented itself, the two Shieldwalls clashed together in a massive roar! After a few turns going toe to toe, my left flank was busted and I was done for..It was a hard fought and bloody victory for Sienna.

An Awesome game to start of the New Year. I'll be going through my hobby area in the next day or so and decide on what projects are on for 2015. I have a bit of on idea on a few but will need to see what i've got sitting around to give me a head start.

Welsh Warband!

Here it is in all its glory, my Welsh Warband!  Plenty of points worth to mess around with in my Saga games. Managed to tick this one off the project/to do list for 2014! Now to figure out what im doing this year....

More Welsh for the Saga Warband..

Today I've managed to finish painting some more figures to bolster my Welsh warband for Saga. I've got enough painted figures now to give myself some options right up to 6pts. I'll have even more options in a few weeks as my brother gave me a pack of Hearthguard for Christmas. (Cheers mate!) You should go check out his blog here.

I decided I wanted another choice for a Warlord so I went ahead and grabbed a Mounted Welsh Warlord. For further options I painted up 8 Mounted Teulu (Hearthguard) as well as adding another 8 Priodaur (Warriors) to my collection. 

Anyone in Australia (or NZ for that matter) looking to stock up on anything Saga related should definitely check out War and Peace Games. These guys are fast and very reliable. I purchased all these figures on a Monday and they were on my doorstep by Wednesday arvo! (And then on my painting pile for the bulk of December....)

Kings of War - Elves vs Dwarves II - 800pts

This afternoon we had another game of Kings of War. The Dwarves were out for revenge in this one and decided to bring along a unit of allied Ogres to help the cause! The armies lined up as follows;

Elves

1 Elven King

1 Regiment of Spearmen

1 Regiment of Palace Guard

2 Half-Regt Palace Guard

2 Troops of Stormwind Cavalry

1 Bolt Thrower

1 Berserker Lord

1 Army Standard Bearer

1 Half-Regt Berserkers

3 Regiments of Ironclad

1 Half-Regt Ironwatch

1 Troop of Ogre Warriors

The Elven King gives his troops the "Freedom Speech"

 The Ogres Lumber forward

 The Stormwind Cav head out to the flanks, attempting to set-up for a thunderous charge

 The Palace Guard march towards the Dwarven Ironwatch, who stand fast and pepper the Palace Guard with fire, weakening them and bracing for the melee.

The Ogres intercept the Palace Guard, while the Spearmen and Cavalry charge into the Dwarves ranks.

 The fierce brutality of the Ogres is quickly realised as they slay through the Palace Guard Regiment in a single combat 

 Meanwhile on the Right flank the crazed unit Berserkers charge into the oncoming Stormwind Cav

The Berserkers inflict heavy damage on the Cavalry troop but due to a lucky Nerve test of double 1's the Troop fights on to counter-charge the following turn and wipe the Berserkers out.

 After a brutal melee with the Ogre Warriors, the Half-Regt of Palace Guard regroup and make a move towards the damaged Ironwatch. 

 Once the last of the Berserkers had been disposed of the Stormwind make haste and charge into the Berserker Lord himself! In what would be the final turn of the game, the Lord failed a nerve test and flees from the battlefield! 

Another fun game of fantasy. This one could have gone either way really, it was very close once all the push and shove in the centre started. It was only when the Stormwind started to flank the Dwarves started to feel the pressure..  The Ogres really are a menacing bunch, my Daughter wants to use more of them in the next game so we'll be hitting the painting table pretty soon to bolster the ranks.

Also, in the past 2 games we've intentionally left out magic users, but will be including them if desired, moving forward.

Kings of War - Elves vs Dwarves 650pts

Tonight my Daughter and I played a (roughly) 650 pt game of Kings of War. We kept the lists as simple as possible as we squeezed the game in before dinner. The armies were as follows;

Dwarves

1 Berserker Lord

1 Half-Regt of Berserkers

3 regiments of Ironclad

1 Troop of Ironwatch

We decided to play to the last man/unit standing, and after we rolled of initiative my Daughter got us underway.

The Dwarven Ironclads roll forward, slow and steady

The Elven Palace Guard hold the ranks and absorb the Berserkers frenzied charge!

A centre view of the battlefield. As the battle rages on, units begin to accumulate damage.

The Berserker Lord charges the Elven Prince, only one will walk away from this.

The fierce melee rages on!

The Victor! The Berserker Lord absolutely butcher's the Prince. A devastating final attack ends the clash!

The Stormwind Cav smash into the flanks of the Ironclad, wiping them out in a single (well rolled) charge.

The Cavalry follow up with another charge  crashing into the Berserker Lord. He manages to hold strong and route the already battle worn Cav.

Once the Lord turned his attention back toward the Elven lines he knew it was all but over. In that very moment the sky was blackened with arrows, and then silence....

4pt Saga game: Vikings vs Welsh

Had a 4pt battle against my Brother's Vikings today. This was pretty much my first saga game in well, just about ever.. not counting participation demos.

My Welsh consisted of;

1xWarlord
2x 8 Warrior Units
1x 12 Levy Bows

The scenario we played was "Battle at the Ford". Renamed "Battle of Coopers Ford" after the fine Australian Beer supplied on the day!; Coopers Pale Ale.

 I moved the Welsh up to the riverbank to start peppering the Vikings with ranged attacks

 A Unit of Viking Warriors storm the shallows to close the gap on my Levy bowmen.

 A PoV from my warriors as the Viking menace advance on the left.

 The Vikings smash into the brave levies, pushing them back after a devastating assault.

 Crashing into the now exposed Viking flank, my Warlord leads his Hearthguard and takes the viking warriors down.

 The last man standing on my left flank sums up his options... they are dismal

 The Clash of the Warlords.

This melee would end in both Warlords taking a very cinematic dirt nap.

At the end of the day however it was the vikings winning on victory points..mind i didnt have much left to continue the fight anyway. Victory to the Viking Invaders.

Overall it was a blast. A nice fun game with a dash of Beers is always a good mix. I didnt play the Welsh to their strengths and paid for it. I  started to see the battle boards strengths by turn 3 or 4, and in those last few turns, even though I felt the game was already lost, I started to feel more comfortable in my tactics. Very keen to keep at it with the Welsh and look forward to the next time i get to push them round the battlefield.
