Small 40k 5th edition game

Got a quick little game of 5th edition Warhammer 40k today. I used a kill team extension/varient to make sure action was quick and deadly. It was my Chaos Marines up against Phoenix' Tau. We played a homebrew catch and hold scenario with limited turns. A fun way to fill some time while the kids are on break from School.

To me 5th edition is my favourite edition as it's the one i managed to play most my games in. I find it pretty balanced if you stick with a majority of 4th ed codex with the first few 5th ed codex releases. Not a great deal of photos as we were both having a blast and i forgot to take many.

The old Necromunda gear doesn't look out of place either! Good gear.
Cheers

Chaos at the Gates!

I've got a few games of 40K coming up in the next month or two, so decided to pull out the Iron Warriors to see where i'm at. After just recently adding a Helbrute, a predator, a Vindicator and another unit of Chosen, the Army can easily be configured to well over 2000 points. However after perusing the pages of my new codex, there are a number of troops I'm keen to add to my collection and try out. Some for effectiveness, other purely for the badass factor! (read multiple Heldrakes!)

I figured while i had the troops out i'd take a couple of quick snaps.

 Rolling thunder!

The Helbrute bringing up the rear, keen to see how he goes on the battlefield!

School Holidays here at the moment which means keeping the kids entertained. Today we rummaged through our bits box's to see what we could work with. I found about 20 Loyalist marines and asked the kids to pick which chapter we should paint them up as; Crimson Fists. Here's a WiP shot, my son undercoated the first 10 and my 7 year old Daughter started the dry brushing, slowly building those blues up.

Will hopefully have these guys finished tomorrow and will start the next 10.

Battle Masters!

After a pretty lazy Sunday morning the kids decided it was time to pull out a household favourite.. It was time to play some Battle Masters!
My son decided to play the forces of evil and commanded the Army mixed with Chaos, Orcs, Goblins and Beastmen. Leaving my Daughter to command the "the nice goodies" (The Empire).

 A shot from above

The black beast eagerly watches on awaiting its next victim.

The Cannon proved to be the unit of the game. Bouncing off many evil heads (and thus inflicting a wound) on its way to destroying an impressive 4 units before it met its demise by some Champions of Chaos.
A close finish saw the Evil army push across the river and attack the last 2 units from the Empire. In a final struggle the Halberdiers and Crossbowman were able to hold off and defeat the last of the vile invaders and return home victorious.

It was an awesome way to fill the afternoon.

I've also been adding a few bits and pieces to my Chaos Space Marines for Warhammer 40k. I went to a local Cash Converters (pawn shop) looking for a Nintendo Gamecube controller, when i stumbled across an exciting find. There in the window, still in shrink-wrap was a copy of Dark Vengeance, the current box set for Warhammer 40k. Here in Australia this sells for $165 so I was very quick to grab this one which was selling fore a mere $30. Happy days! First thing I've started on is the Helbrute, an awesome looking model which i'm eager to paint and add to the horde!

A bit of green stuff on this bad boy then a coat of paint and he'll be ready to unleash hell!

Obliterators

Two of the old school Obliterator figures ready to join the forces of my Iron Warriors. I prefer the old models for some reason, they have a certain charm about them.

Obliterators are Chaos Space Marines whose bodies have been affected by the Obliterator Virus, turning them into twisted hybrids of Marine, Daemon and Machine. They orignially emerged in the Iron Warriors Legion and have the ability to generate different weapons from their mutated flesh.
