Plans for 2012

This year i didn't make a great deal of progress due to moving and buying a new house, but now that all is settled I've managed to lock in my projects for next year. Here are the 3 majors for 2012, followed by my additions to existing armies and 'finish offs' for current projects.

  • 28mm Peninsular War, large scale skirmish - Perry, Victrix and Front Rank are the likely figures to be used. Sharp Practice by TFL looks to be the early contender for rules at this stage but I'm open to any suggestions? I'm wanting about 30 - 100 figures per side.

  • 28mm Battle of Brunanburh - Using Impetus and Piquet as the rules of choice. 17-18 Units per alliance, I'll be mustering the Saxons for battle while my Uncle and gaming buddy Gavin Shanks will be collecting the Northern Kingdoms. Army sizes will be roughly 17 - 18 units per side and at this stage about 12 figures per basic unit. I've already got a great start to my army after picking up some lovely figures from Matt over at Storm and Conquest (thanks mate!)
  • 15mm 3rd Crusade - Using the free Basic Impetus rules found here and thanks to Giuseppe from  Legio Heroica, I now have enough of his buetiful "Holyland" range to build each Basic Impetus list for the Ayyubids and Crusaders  respectively. The army lists can be found here. For anyone down here in Australia thinking about ordering from Legio Heroica I can highly recommend them, Giuseppe has to be one of the best traders I've ever dealt with in the industry and postage is very reasonable.
  • 15mm WW2 for Flames of War - Finish off the British Rifle Company and touch up and re-base a German Grenadier Company.
  • 28mm Fantasy - Continue on with the High Elves, Skaven, Dwarves and Ogres.
  • Warhammer 40k - Continue on with the Iron Warriors Chaos Space Marines and the Tau armies.
  • 28mm Pirates - finish painting my crews from Black Scorpion for Legends of the High Seas.
Overall I think it's pretty manageable, of course there will be the inevitable side-project that rears its ugly head but I'm still pretty confident that I'll be able to complete these projects before the end of 2012... or the world according to some...

Happy New Year!

    Tau Empire

A couple of snaps of my Tau Army for 40k. I've only started this army this year and haven't had a game with it yet, but am looking forward to using them as they'll give a completely different game than my Iron Warriors. My Son was really keen on the look of the Tau so it was the easy pick as my 2nd force and will be his army to use against mine at home.

Another really basic colour scheme with a basecoat, one or two highlights and in some cases a wash using Gw's Badab Black. Quick to paint and looks fine enough on the table. Bases done by Phoenix (myoung bloke)

     Hammerhead w/Railgun

     Unit of Fire Warriors

The Army so far including: Battlesuits, Stealth Battlesuits, Fire Warriors and Hammerhead.

I've got another unit of Warriors, a unit of Drones and some Kroot all undercoated and in the que to be painted when i get some more time.

    Skaven Unit

A unit of Skaven Clanrats for my sons army.

I'm thinking the Island of Blood Box set might be a good idea as i can use the Skaven for the young Bloke and the High Elves in my army plus the small rulebook will be handy because the big one is just over the top in size and price...

    High Elves!

A few shots of my High Elf Army. It's a Nagarythe themed army, based on forces that were in Malekith's command but didn't join him when he turned against his brethren, instead staying loyal to Ulthuan and fighting against him.

This Army was a small force that i picked up from a nice chap in Melbourne and am slowly beginning to add units to (now that i have some more time up my sleeve!) Rick was kind enough to send me through a detailed list of how he painted his units so that i could match mine up and keep the theme going.

I still have Phoenix Guard, Sea Guard, another Spear Unit and some Shadow Warriors to add, aswell as another 1 or 2 bolt throwers.... I'm also considering some Lion Chariots.

     Army Commander
Spear Unit flanked by Swordmasters and White Lions
     Swordmasters
One of two 20 man Archer Units
     Ellyrian Reavers
Army Shot (a few units off the table)

Sabot bases will be made for the entire army as I plan on using it for Hostile Realms, Basic Impetus Fantasy as well as Warhammer down at QNK. I've not had much experience with actually playing Warhammer since around 6th edition so i'm kind of looking forward to taking this Army for a spin.

    Warhammer Skaven

After we (the family and I) recently moved home to Queensland from Victoria we sadly discovered a whole box of wargaming figures and terrain went missing..A massive chunk of my Dwarfs, my Son's Skaven and Imperial Guard and a number of other things all vanished. My Son really liked his Skaven so we've decided to rebuild. Thanks to a recent birthday gift from his Great Uncle we've got a nice start to the new Army. Here's a few shots of his new Packmaster with Rat Ogres. He was also given a unit of clanrats which i just need to base up and do the movement tray.

    Cheers,
    Nate

    Late War British Rifle Company

One of the absolute favourite games down at my local club (QLD Northern Knights) is Flames of War. Being new to FoW i’ve taken a fair amount of time deciding on which way i want to go army wise. First off I plan on building a British Rifle Company for late war using the Fortress Europe intelligence handbook. The following list is more or less a Vanilla starting point that with added extras would be roughly 1500 points and can easily have units added to round it up for larger games.
    ———————————————-
    HQ
    Command team + Jeep
    ———————————————
    COMBAT PLATOONS
Rifle Platoon w/ 3 Rifle squads. (Command team, PIAT team and Light Mortar team included)
Rifle Platoon w/ 3 Rifle squads. (Command team, PIAT team and Light Mortar team included)
Rifle Platoon w/ 3 Rifle squads. (Command team, PIAT team and Light Mortar team included)
    **each rifle squad = 2 bases of Rifle/MG **
    ———————————————-
    DIVISIONAL SUPPORT
Armoured Platoon ~ 3x Sherman (including 1x Firefly VC) all armed with .50 cal AA MG’s
    Armoured Platoon ~ 3x Sherman
Field Battery, Royal Artillery ~ Two Gun Troop w/ 4 25pdr Gun sections x2 (8 guns total) – obs team + command included

I've just about finished all the Rifle Platoons, so will post some photos in the next few days.

    Iron Warriors

Heres a few snaps of my WIP Iron Warriors army for Warhammer 40k. This particular project is more or less a side project i add to very sporadically. I’m not really trying to build anything too competitive, just whatever takes my fancy really. Warhammer 40k is one of the more popular games down at the Northern Knights so i intend to grab a couple of pick-up games in the not so distant future. I generally use the most basic techniques when painting; drybrushing and using washes. This would have to be my favourite way of getting tabletop quality miniatures ready to play in a reasonable amount of time. This may not be “the best” way of painting and i’m admittedly not the greatest when it comes to a steady hand, but i find its good enough for my taste. (beats gaming with undercoated/unpainted minis anyday!)

I’ve got a unit of 10 Marines on the Assembly table that i’m going to split into two groups of 5 Chaos Chosen. I’m just trying to scratch together a few more Melta-guns at the moment, then onto the painting table.
